| Topic Info: | | | This page is where we display one member a month who we feel is a great example of user participation, posting, or the community driven helper. Most likely, all of the above. We want this site and its forums to be an enjoyable place for any and all gamers out there, and the Admins and Mods feel this month's member has done their part well in aiding in that effort. We remind you all out there, as a registered user of the Sixth Nation Community of Gamers, you are one in a larger community. You can help in finding those above and beyond by using the report feature. This helps make us aware of what YOU the users like in the way of fellow community members, and makes sure no-one slips by that shouldn't. Thanks.

December finished and so the 2011. We have looked back at the year and realized how many great posters we had during the last 12 months. There have been funny mvps, helpful mvps, friendly mvps, awesome mvps... We had everything at their best. Well, not quite. We had almost everything. Looking back we noticed a gap, the one that could only be filled by someone playful, someone funny, someone who has always a line prepared ready to make you forget your troubles, someone who has the best crafter suit ever and a colourful personality. This member is so special that he has got his own group and forum colour. You probably have already guessed... our December MVP 2011 is... Dingo!!! Thank you very much for being there, for your support since day one, for bringing your good nature and cuteness into the boards, for opening for us a door to your aussie home full of pets. Congrats Dingo!! Thank you for being here!!
| November 2011: | | | Hey, all you Nationites. It's time for another MVP announcement. Passed time, actually. Sorry about that. Why, you ask? We're just going to have to chalk it up to a code 879. For those of you not as familiar with your official Sixth Nation Codebooks as you should be, that particular code reads, "Blame Liam, move on." Dang it, Liam! Now, on to the MVP announcement!

This month's MVP has done much to contribute to the Nation for quite some time now. Indeed, they were very frequently in the running for this before. So it is with great pleasure that we can finally award this to one who has done much to deserve it.
Congratulations, Reo!
This is our way of saying thanks for being a great contributor and an all around good guy to hang with. Keep on doing what you do.

| October 2011: | | | How quickly the 6th can sneak up on you. Here we are, the beginning of November, and it is time to announce our MVP for October. This month I have kind of commandeered. Normally we like to build a list of those who have received the most Nation Rep, have a vote among Staff and Loyalists, etc. I circumvented all this for good reason.
This months member is actually fairly new to our community, but that hasn't stopped him from quickly building an impressive 15 nation Rep points , and has even been kind enough to donate funds to the site. All you guests browsing Ad free have this months member to thank, as do the rest of us. I am speaking of
The one, the only rrwatch
Thanks rr. For topics and posts of interest and value, monetary and spoken support that means so much, and for being the first to identify the ecosystem of George Michaels ass. A scary job, but someone one has to do it. You definitely add something great to our Nation of Gamers and by being a regular user add to the atmosphere we try to maintain. Here's looking at you.

Hey guys and girls! Welcome to the Uncharted 2: 2 vs 2 Tournament! Team-MakingIn terms of making your 2v2 team, there aren't a whole lot of rules. Find a buddy to team up with, create a team name and post your team in this thread. I'll add you to the OP and put you in a bracket. Tournament competitors don't have to be from the Nation. As long as atleast one member of your team can post here, then you're good to go. NEW: ALL SPOTS IN THE TOURNAMENT HAVE BEEN FILLED. ANY NEW REGISTRATIONS WILL BE PUT IN A "STAND-IN" BIN.In addition to the previous statements, you and your partner's K/D combined cannot exceed 3.0. For example, if my K/D is 1.6 and my partner's K/D is 1.7, we cannot team up because 1.6 + 1.7 = 3.3. You can check your K/D and your partner's K/D at the Naughty Dog webstie located here: http://www.naughtydog.com/stats/ insert name hereBracketsUnlike the last tournament, the initial match-ups in each bracket will be randomized. Another new addition is that this tournament will be a double elimination. If you're not familiar with a double elimination, here is a diagram of one. The gist of it is that if you lose a match, you still have a chance of winning, which is always a good thing NEW: BRACKETS WILL BE UP BY AUGUST 3RD.Match Set-upIn terms of setting up a match with your opponents, that is all your responsibility. Get in touch with your opponents, find a time which you all can play, and get'r'done. If there is some sort of complication, such as a missing teammate or a seemingly impossible way to find a time to play, contact me by PM and we'll figure something out. Match RulesRounds: Matches will be a best 2 out of 3 rounds. Maps: Team A will choose the first map. Team B will choose the second map. If a tie-breaking round is required, both teams mutually decide on a map. Game Type: Deathmatch, 30 kills, 20 minutes. Weapons: Any and all weapons are allowed. Boosters: Any and all boosters are allowed, except Rocketman and Launchman. Ettiquite: I'm not too worried about people abusing this, but proper sportsmanship should be supported. This is supposed to be fun and entertaining, don't ruin it by trashtalking or gloating. PrizesThere WILL be prizes this time, awarded to the winners of the tournament. People in 2nd place get a little personal surprise from me So get your teammate, pick a name, and get practicing/strategizing. It's going to be a bumpy ride.

First off, nobody wants you to leave. I don't know you that well but you seem like a good guy that is always willing to lift a hand. You certainly lack confidence and that leads you to giving up. You leaving this forum would just be another thing you've given up on.
Life isn't always easy. There isn't anybody here that hasn't been kicked in the gut. The older you get, the more scars you have. However, that means the good times are truly good. You can look back at the way you felt and realize how much better things are now and how you would have done things differently if you face the same challenges. Learning is a big part of life.
Lack of confidence usually means there is something about yourself that you don't like. It's much harder to find somebody when you aren't comfortable with who you are. So, you need to look at yourself and find some things that you would like to change. You don't need an extensive list. Even little things can make a big difference in the way you feel about yourself. Baby steps.
I don't talk about myself very often but just to show you that I'm not blowing smoke I will tell you how I changed. I had developed a pretty bad drinking habit. I have always loved drinking since my college days but some bad relationships and uncertainty of where my life was heading did me in. My drinking started to accelerate to the point that I was getting loaded all the time. I don't know if I became addicted but this habit lasted for many years. I was drunk on RFOM all the time! You want to talk about a KD killer, try playing when you can barely see the TV.
I tried to quit several times but couldn't. Finally, I took a long look at myself and who I had become. I didn't like it. In fact, I hated what had become of my life. I quit that day. November will mark one year without having a drop of alcohol.
Things will not change unless you change them.

These tips will be nothing new to people that have played the game for a long time. They are meant for new players or players that would like to work on their sniping.
Each video will show a different spot that can be used to get a good kill streak going. I winged this format so any suggestions to improve the videos are welcome. Make sure you click off the ad so you can see the hints. Also, switch it to 720 for the best quality.

The SixthNations Admin and Mod staff would like to thank Hoos for his excellent contributions across the forum in many ways seen and unseen. What separates The Hoosalump some from the rest of the community is that he has very good posting habits only chiming into a topic when he really has something of value to contribute to it, and being much more disciplined if he doesn't. That, along with being the resident MW expert, he has no reservations in being helpful in anyway he can be for other users on site. His videos, posts etc found in the MW topics exceed that of the "average" user. He has supported this site since it's creation, and as his main post featured here shows, he's always there to support his fellow users beyond just gaming.
Thanks Hoos. The place wouldn't be the same with out you.

Go and watch Raistlin's videos, he does walkthroughs of the maps, some of his perspective and things to look out for, and most come with a lot of solid general advice. He also did videos on how to bank grenades, and how to work on your accuracy, and those are both definitely skills you'll want to pick up, and work on.
From there, it's a matter of finding what you want to do, and how you want to approach the game. I use the FAL, and I camp, so my necessary skillset is a little bit different than someone like Raistlin, who's significantly more AK-centric, and much, much more mobile than myself. You'll want to learn how to cornershoot, which I can show you whenever I catch you online. It's pretty simple, mechanically, and I've pretty much built my playstyle upon it. Even if you don't end up camping, or using the FAL, you'll want to understand how it works, so you can avoid it, or counter it.
From the games we got in, you seemed to dig the FAL more than the AK, and you did mention not liking the AK in the campaign very much, either. Still ringing pretty true?
As far as boosters go, the default for newer players is Down the Irons, and Fleet Foot. Down the Irons helps reduce the spread of your long-guns, when aiming them, and Fleet Foot helps you to move faster, while aiming. Fleet is a pretty handy thing to have, when you get your strafing down, because you'll find yourself out-dancing players who don't have it. I know it can be tough for some people to try to work on that coordination, I think a few people we've done workshops with just couldn't quite get it down, but strafing is definitely a habit that you'll want to try to build into routine.
Other notable early boosters aren't very common, I used to advocate Bandoleer quite a bit, but I don't really find myself using it very often. It increases the ammo you get on picking up a weapon, so you'll have more shotgun rounds, more sniper rounds, and more rounds for the AK/M4/FAL and FS as well. It's pretty handy to have the extra FS or M4 ammo, but with the pickups being relatively plentiful, it's more a matter of wanting the extra rounds in the power weapons. For the RPG and Hammer, they have their own boosters, that you'll unlock, Rocket Man and Launch Man, respectively, that'll increase their ammo on pick-up.

| Endloslung wrote: | This almost sounds like a discussion I had with Street, last night, on AIM. I don't give a flying Bullet Bill F BOMB what your score is, at the end of the game. I've had my share of amazing runs, and my share of awful runs, but I've had my team stand by me, and we've pulled out victories, and it was wonderful. Hell, we won the Ice Cave game where I went 0-13, and that was as an "elite" level 60.
There are so many factors that weigh into success, far above and beyond K/D, and it's not necessarily fair to judge based solely on it. Yes, in the context of a Deathmatch, a good KD is an indicator of success, potentially, or the ability to carry your own weight, but it's not quite that simple, either. If a player is a little less "beast", but functions well within the context of a team, I'd much rather have them, most of the time. There have been a few good examples, throughout my UC2 career, of choosing my friends, as well as team players, over playing with crews who are just there to do their own thing, and try to beast it out, all independent of one another.
You also have to look at why you're playing the game, and why they're playing the game. I won't lie, I'm a competitive person. I like to do well, I like to win, and I like to see big numbers in my kill column, and much smaller numbers in the deaths. At the same time, I know we have a lot of the spectrum covered, both here in the Nation, and within Axis, so sometimes I have to pull myself back a little bit, and just play to be with my friends. Those private co-ops with Reo and Prizma, or Charlitos' Sniper/Pistole games were some of the most fun I've had on UC2, in a while, and it was just to chill out, and hang with my friends. Doing well and winning were secondary goals, and I honestly didn't care if they happened or not.
I see the merit in playing in the super-crews, and focusing so much on your KD, and your W/L ratio, because I'm a like-minded person. I want to do well, and I want to compete and emerge with the W next to my name, and be a strong and contributing player. At the same time, having been there, first-hand, and having been through that scene, if that's all your playing for, it's very easy to get caught up in the silly drama, and the ego. I've lost so many friends that I used to enjoy playing with, because of petty arguments, and clashes, and it's just not worth it. Anymore, I can boot up my PS3, find two or three people on, and we just chill. We do well enough for ourselves, we have a good time, and honestly, when I stop caring, and troll with Turtle/Fleet or Break Up/Scavenger, I'm doing just as well, because I'm enjoying myself, and still playing well.
As far as the other games, I can't speak for much. I played MAG excessively for about a month, before the lack of teamwork, and the general lack of depth burnt me out. Even as an Assault Medic, I had a fine KD. It was 2+, but I also know that's not why I played, and why people would keep commenting on having me around as the Squad/Platoon medic. I knew my role, and that was to keep people picked up, keep tabs on the respawn ticker in case I couldn't reach them, so they could respawn optimally, and to make sure my guys were healthy. Plenty of people I've played with can vouch that I've charged into hell and back to get my guys back up, and I loved playing within that role. It was about fulfilling my role on the field, and trying to make as large a difference as I could, and work with my team, to push those objectives. - If people played MAG solely for KD, there would be a massive amount of sniping going on. I don't deny that snipers have their role, within MAG, and I often pined for a few that would be able to succeed in that, but most of the time, a sniper is going to be a waste of space, on your squad. It's not about KD in MAG, it's much more about acting as a team, within your squad/platoon, and making sure that you get the job done. I may fall 15 times, on an assault, but if I can get picked up, and keep as many guys going, and healed as I can, while I'm up, and lay down cover/suppressing fire, then we're going to win. That's fine with me.
I've even had my moment as a sniper, when Vash and I were making the rounds, picking up our Vet trophies for each faction. Our job wasn't to get kills, it was to keep people pinned down, or to send the signal that route X, was a terrible option. We were able to manipulate the flow of the opposing traffic, into spots that were far more advantageous for our guys to defend, and that's the point.
Porky has a good point, in that everyone has something different to contribute. For some guys, it's just the sheer hilarity of having them around, and having a good time. Shayan was never, and will never be a super-beast player, but I would jump at the chance to play with him around again, just because he's such a good friend. Likewise, I've had people that I would never play with again, because of the opposite. Yeah, they were great players, but complete tools. I can count on our guys, even if we're having an off day, to put their best forward, and to play as a team, and to have a good time with it. That's what I'm looking for, when I party up.
Like I told Street last night, it's as simple as friendship. Yeah, he's done amazing, so far in UC2, but even if he didn't, he would still get plenty of invites, and party time, because he's my friend, and I enjoy gaming with him. |

In learning, I've made it through these steps:
1. try and follow the guys out of the spawn - i.e. chicken with head cut off effect 2. learn to follow the big square box with the arrow/distance 2a. if offense run to 30 meters, die, rinse and repeat. 2b. if defense run to 0 meters, figure which way the enemy is coming, go 30 meters towards them, die, rinse repeat. 2c. in defense, when xp whoring or bored, look for big columns of smoke -- run there with fixit kit. 3. I think I'm suppose to be going to SL markers?
Ok, point 3 above --- I assume I'm not reading the screen correctly, or most of the games I've played the SL is not dropping markers.
In Domination a few times, I see a yellow U shaped icon with arrow/distance ... kind of looks like a tuning fork. Is this the SL's marker? You got it, that tuning fork is the squad leaders marker. To be honest I almost never see this used, usually it's placed on there by accident when trying to frago something, that's what I find anyway. so I tend to ignore it, however sometimes if your squad leader has a mic they might try to organise everyone like "Everyone meet up at the marker and attack the bunker from the right" then I go to the marker. But most of the time I just ignore it. But that's just me.
I'm thinking its about time to get myself kicked and see how the SL markers, air strikes etc. work ... I assume I'd be a better player if I understood all the visual and audio clues triggered by my leaders/other players. I can remember when I first got a leadership position I was overwhelmed by what to do, so what I recommend is that next time you are partied up with Endlo- or me, try applying for a position and we will happily talk you through what to do and what everything does. Here is a great guide that covers all the basics of being a leader of any description.
Any thoughts here would be much appreciated:
i.e.
Its rumbling/shaking like crazy - what the heck is going on (enemy air strike, I'm in the middle of my own sides air strike etc.) Yeah, you're either about to die from the incoming strike on your head or there's one very close to you.
A voice says something like I am engaging your target, Is this meaningful to me? I have not played around at all with my arrow keys, should I be calling in hot spots? I'm not quite sure what voice over you mean, what game mode is this in? The arrow keys are mainly used and useful if you're a leader.
brings up the chat channel select, if you're a leader you have access to different channels of chat to talk to other leaders and do team and platoon broadcasts depend on what leader you are.
is the squad requests button, scroll through these options and it does a call out for what you choose to your squad members and shows an icon of what you want above your character, mainly just useful for people who don't have a mic.
is the frago commands/identify target button, if you are squad leader this is one way to frago objectives on the go, if you're any other person then it just brings up all of the targets/objectives in your vicinity eg bunkers, control panels, gates, APCs etc.
is the command abilities/strikes this is only available if you're a leader of some description and playing in a game mode where there's mortar batteries ie not suppression or sabotage. While holding down you can call in any of your strikes or abilities while on the move using the curser which appears.
various voice messages about air strikes or other Once you understand what all of the strikes are this voice over becomes very handy, you can tell which strikes are being called in and whether or not you need to run from the coloured smoke which just appeared in front of you. In domination there are a few voice overs too which indicate what the OIC's are doing, like if you're defending the voice over says something along the lines of "The enemy have slowed our reinforcements." This for an example is when the attacking OIC calls in the blockade ability, which causes the defending team to have a 30 second respawn for three minutes. So listening and understand what each voice over means can help you understand what's happening and influence your decisions on the battlefield. Continuing the example from before if I hear that our reinforcements have been slowed, I am much less inclined to bleed out, as no one likes to have to wait for a 28 second respawn. |
Just fyi the red is my input, hope it helps.
The new escalation dlc is finally coming out Nov 2 (Source), soooo looking forward to it, I loved the game mode in the beta so it should be good. The new weapons should make things more interesting but you can be sure that there bill be many people claiming the weapons are over powered I can assure you. Although I haven't been able to find anything on the stats of any of them yet. But I'm definitely buying this dlc, even though I get the dlc 2 days later in New Zealand you can be sure I will be on there once it does come
On a side note I got my 600th grim reaper ribbon!!! |
| FlightOfGrey wrote: | | Azombie wrote: | So for anyone who has any of the DLC, is the Undead pack for the $20 worth it?
I'm not a huge fan of competitive modes, but I like Free Roam. How does the Zombie pack affect the single player game? Are you always running into the DLC content or can you avoid it while you play through the main game? How do you play it (as in do you have to go to an area to trigger it and then are you stuck playing it through)? |
I only have the zombie dlc for red dead redemption and I honestly think that it is some of the best value for money DLC that I have bought in quite a while.
The zombie pack affects the single player by creating a completely new save all together, it's a complete story all in itself. To play it you just chose single player as you normally do then pick the Undead Nightmare option, just like choosing what kind of a free roam you want to join.
Here are a couple of good links which list everything and have a collection of reviews it has received. Here and here. |
| FlightOfGrey wrote: | | Seyel wrote: | Also, and this applies to every game, I just can't understand people over the mic most of the time, I have trouble whith different accents and speeds; I have a mic myself, but I am a bit self-conscious about my accent and my English-as-a-second-language status. I promise I will work on that, and eventually I will be able to talk comfortably to all of you. Anyway, if we are in game and you have said "let's all go to A" and I have stayed in B... chances are I have not understood :S Please do not get mad at me in game... |
I don't think you should feel self conscious about your accent or fluidity of speech over the mics, I mean it's not like you're ever going to meet someone you're talking to in your squad and it would make you more useful on the battlefield. Instead of having to type it into chat where that guy just killed you is just say over the mic, then you don't have to go back to the XMB and waste game time and by the time you have done that chances are he might have moved by then.
So I would fully recommend using your mic, at least when you play with us. You appear to write perfectly so I can't imagine you talk badly. I wouldn't have even picked up on English being your second language if you hadn't said. This is also a good chance to practise your English too! Having a mic also increases your chances of getting a leadership position by a lot, which will be more useful the larger game modes you play.

I would be more than happy to give some people advice, I know how steep the learning curve for it is. So any time that I'm online send me a message and I will happily jump into your squad and give any advice that I have picked up and places I like to go etc to the best of my ability. |

1. To be honest, obviously I haven't been here that long but I don't find anything wrong with the site and I think it works quite well for the number of people who are part of this community. So unless you had some major reasons and upgrades that you would really like to implement which you can't using this free hosting forum then I would recommend you moved the site over but otherwise like I said before I don't have any problems with the site.
2. The only changes that I can think of would be the size of the main buttons - the log out, profile, messages, index etc... I think that they look quite clunky and could possibly be reduced in size or lose the little logo to the left of each. They also could be rearranged in the hierarchy of use, for instance I never use or have used the log out or usergroups button. I don't understand why they are of the same importance as the search or index functions. But I would like to hear what you had in mind that you might implement should the site move which would make the move worth while.
A search function which searched more than just the titles of threads would be VERY useful.
3. No sorry. |

I did the normal thing and made sure I avoided him by a mile as baby officers are usually more trouble than they are worth! They are generally known as SOBs = Stupid Officer B**tard.
Another poor soldier was not so lucky. As their paths crossed the soldier threw up his arm in an admittedly sloppy attempt at a salute. The SOB screams at the top of his voice that the salute was a mark of respect to the Queen and must be done with military precision at every opportunity! I think he had read too many Soldier comics when he was a kid.
Anyway, the whole camp stopped to watch the entertainment. It’s like watching a car crash pretending you don’t want to see blood. The Officer made the young Tom stand to attention and salute him again and again to ‘Make him learn the importance of doing it right!” This must have been going on for quite some time before I spotted the RSM scurrying along to the scene with the speed of 1000 greased gazelles while maintaining all the military bearing of a shiny penguin as only RSMs can. “What the F’ing ‘ell do you think you are doing with MY soldier, Sir!!?” The SOB started spluttering something about teaching him how to salute which was the wrong thing to say, even if it was the truth. “There is only one person on this camp who has the authority to teach soldiers drill movements, and that is ME. Do you think you are me? Do you think you know better than me? Do you want to BE me?” The SOB had shrunk to about 6” tall by this stage and we were all warming to the show. “No Sergeant Major.” Managed to squeak the poor unfortunate. The RSM was warming to his part now and even managed a bit of a smile I think (or it might have been wind). “Good Sir. Now, about this lesson in saluting. I’m sure as a fine upstanding new graduate of the finest officer training facility in the world you are fully aware of the need to return compliments as they are presented?” “Er, yes.” Said the young officer, really not sure what was going to happen next. “Then you won’t mind returning this young soldier’s salute every time he does it will you?” “No Sergeant Major” replies the SOB as if he has a choice. For the next 10 minutes or so the RSM plays saluting games with the two poor unfortunates making them march up to each other, march away from each other and even saluting to the side while still marching. It was an honour to watch such a fine display. Eventually, as the RSM got bored and sent them on their way there must have been about 50-60 of us watching the show, but not one of us dared to clap!
I don’t think I ever saw that officer again. It was generally considered bad form to upset the RSM. Even the Commanding Officer was scared of the RSM!

| Quote: | So, I was getting the hang of this soldiering lark and was now posted to my first unit. A military hospital, no less. Because I was a qualified nurse I also got to sew a stripe onto my arm. Last time I did that it quickly ended in tears and it got removed before too long so I was feeling a bit nervous with it on there.
So, I turn up at the guard house of the unit expecting to be shouted and balled at as that was always how people in green seemed to greet me, but to my surprise the Corporal actually spoke to me as if I was semi-human. Things were looking up. I was given directions to my room and told to be outside my room at early O'clock the next morning when someone would show me around. The next morning, still highly suspicious, I was met by a L/Cpl who was going to introduce me to all the right people. I was taken in for a Matron’s interview where I was asked where I would like to work. In between qualifying as a nurse and starting basic training again I had briefly worked in the operating theatres of my training hospital. It was perfect for me as I found it very logical work and easy to learn. Not many nurses like the work as it is very detached from the caring side of nursing, but that's another thing that appealed to me. As you may have guessed, I'm not really the cuddly lovey sort. Don't get me wrong, I'm passionate about high quality care and giving the best possible treatment to all that need it. I just want to fix you though, not give you a cuddle and wipe your a**e as well! So my first choice for work was Operating Theatres. “Mmmm” says Matron, “Specialist areas like that normally take time to get into. Let’s start you out somewhere more general.” “Okay” says I “How about a Surgical Ward as at least it’s an area I’m familiar with?” “Is there anywhere you wouldn’t want to work?” she asked. Now looking back on this, it is obvious to me that I should have kept my mouth shut here and just said I would accept her guidance on what was best for me. But no, I was young (just 21) and foolish (some things never change) so I told her I didn’t understand Medical conditions and I hated Intensive Care Units.
So, I reported for duty the next day on the Medical Intensive Care Unit. The ward was split into three areas. The ITU, the long stay ward and upstairs was the short stay ward. Shift patterns were 12 hour shifts. 7 days, 7 nights, 7 off. Nights were my favourite. The long stay ward was good work, the patients were mainly self caring and just needed regular bloods taking so once they were asleep you could forget them. ITU was similar, you just needed to sit at a desk watching a monitor and go around to physically check the patients every hour. You normally had two staff in ITU and one on the ward. If there were any patients upstairs they were on specific treatment and a specialist nurse was put on duty to look after them. All we had to do was go up at break time to let them go for food and a wander. My favourite game on nights was to sneak into the ITU office and squirt KY Jelly into the earpiece of the phone, then go out onto the ward and phone the office. The cry of anguish as they felt the KY Jelly hit their ear drum was one of the best sounds in the world. One night as I was planning a KY ambush I heard footsteps upstairs. I had been told there was no-one up there and now felt guilty as I had not been up to relieve them for a break. I phoned ITU and asked if they had relieved upstairs and they told me it was closed. One of them reluctantly came through so I could go up and we could both clearly hear footsteps upstairs. So, up I went to find the ward locked up and all the lights out. I ran downstairs to get the key, thinking we had locked a patient in there and opened up the ward. I searched everywhere and found nothing. I was getting angry now as I knew I had just fallen for a practical joke but no one was admitting to setting me up. The next morning I was handing over and told the day staff of my false errand upstairs and in unison they both laughed and said “That’s Matron doing her rounds.” Turns out Matron used to do her rounds when the hospital first opened in Victorian times and one of them fell down the back corridor steps and broke her neck. Now on quiet nights she can be heard checking the wards and keeping an eye on us. I love ghost stories, but it didn’t stop my doing KY ambushes knowing she was watching me.

| Quote: | My mum was very proud, I still feel a bit sick about the whole issue. I still don't believe I was brave, I just did what anyone, given the chance, would do.
Very basically - Early days of our involvement in Kosovo - an old woman and a young girl were living in the wrong place. The toddler's mum had already been killed when she left the house to get food. The men were long dead. I was in the area helping sort out medical facilities when my interpreter overhead a conversation between the locals about this family. As we got back in the vehicle the interpreter told me what was going on, that these people we were there to help were deliberately starving out these two, and would kill them if they left their house. I went back in the room and told them I was going to get the family and take them away. I was threatened, I threatened back, and we went off and got the two people. We were shot at and we shot back. We got them to safety and everyone was happy. Even when I went back into the area the head guy thanked me for 'cleansing' his area.
I have a picture somewhere of me, the little girl and a little boy who demanded to be in the picture.
So, not brave just doing what was right. I was silly though as I should have walked away and reported it for someone else to deal with.
Now, if you want someone really brave in this story it was my interpreter. He was Albanian, but still came with us into Serbian areas to interpret. We just had to remember to call him a different name depending on where we were or who we were talking to. If he was caught by either side helping the other he was in real danger. Now that man had balls of steel. He also managed to get me champagne for millennium new years eve. The guy was amazing!

Random fact #67 - I've never not been shortlisted for a job Very Happy= . And I've only failed one two interviews Sad .
I applied for a teaching job but had a complete brain fart when I was asked to describe my preferred teaching style!
I applied for two senior manager jobs at the same time within the same organisation. Got a phonecall after the first interview telling me I had been unsucsessful, but they were really looking forward to seeing me the following day for the other interview for the job I'm currently in now.
Good luck for Friday Toxx hun.
Yes the good jobs mean more, so there is more pressure. I write out likely difficult questions and then get the textbook answer, then reherse them like mad until they are second nature in front of someone you trust. Then when you walk into the interview you know that you will be strong on the hard stuff and can let your personality shine on the easier stuff. The other question I always prepare is the bone question 'Tell me about you'. It's a really lazy question to ask as they should have read you CV, but get it short and punchy with a random fact in there and it creates a great first impression.
After a long day of interviewing are they going to remember the four guys in brown ties, or the girl that showed her confidence from the first question. 'And damn, she belongs to an international on-line gaming clan!' 'That means she probably knows a bit about computers and can help out with that if we get stuck.'
'Who do we want? Well they all knew their botany stuff, but she was the better communicator...'
When can you start?

Questions
What makes you a good manager?
You've come from the shop floor and can appreciate what it's like.
What is one of your strengths and weaknesses?
Strength - Shop floor up knowledge of the buisness and really passionate about it.
Weakness - High standards so have difficulty in letting go. (I've lost count the times people have said their weakness is that they are a perfectionist and it cheeses me off! This almost says the same thing but is more humble.)
Area for personal development - Since injury you realise you can't do everything so have put your energies into understanding how to get the best from your team and in particular - change management. This will better enable you to bring about changes in practice so that the team works together to improve the working environment and standards. I normally say something along the lines of I believe I am really passionate about the subject but realise I can't do everything myself. The reason I'm applying for this management role is so that through my passion and drive I can develop others within my team to get the most out of them as individuals and get the highest possible standards from the team.
Negotiate standards with team - agreed standard (yours obviously but they at least think they helped) - everyone knows what's expected. Then when someone fails to meet the agreed standard they know why you are not happy. They can't complain - they helped you set the standard.
Mmmmm, i love interviews.

Oh you were talking about the group, The Sixth Nation. . My bad. How sad.
Well it's always good to be able to cheer a colleague up when they're feeling a bit down. Last year it was my turn. I was after suffering from severe depression for a year and a half, and had eaten my way from 12 stone to 19. I wasn't looking after myself at all. But when I joined the friendship and togetherness I felt help bring me back from the brink. I enjoyed the fun and banter I had with yourself, eat, Monkey, Mr. Pull and Leo in particular. Whatever happens I will never forget how the Nation helped me.
So now it's your turn. Whenever you feel down or depressed you know there's a place you can go to alleviate the burden. Good friends are only a pm away. It's good to know that when times get tough you have a core group of friends that have your back, no matter what. We are on a journey together, and nobody knows where we'll be in a year, or even in a month. But for now, in this brief moment of time we are together, and we take care of each other come what may.

Yes we are the Sixth Nation. We carry our name with pride and dignity. We do not abuse, and we will not accept the behaviour of those that get their kicks from doing so. The Sixth Nation doesn't follow, but leads the way in setting an example of how gaming should be conducted. We are the standard bearers, the trailblazers. Our strength is our unity, and the bonds we create. We take pride in knowing how people should be treated. No power trip or glory seeking is worth anybody's feelings or character being assaulted. We are gamers yes, but more importantly, we are human beings and we know how to treat others in a kind and caring manner.
Long live The Sixth Nation.

| Quote: | Hi Porky.
I had similar problems recently when switching the console between TVs. Mine is still the old 60 gig launch model, so I'm not sure if this will work on the slimmer models.
The TV needs to recognize that a HDMI cable is being used. So what I did was I turned the power on from the console. Forget the controller for a moment. I touched the power on button on the console. Keep it pressed until you hear a second beep ( about two seconds). Then a screen should appear stating that a HDMI lead has been detected. It will then ask you if you wish to continue using the HDMI. Now using the controller, enter Yes.
You will then be taken to a different screen where it is basically a test to make sure you can see the screen in 1080i ( max resolution for PS3). It will ask you to enter Yes within 30 seconds. Once you enter Yes you should be up and running in full HD.
This worked for me on a couple of occasions when I got a black screen. I hope it works . Good luck. |
| Quote: | I have a general observation to make as a neutral.
Hear ye, hear ye, hear ye.
Step on up.
Come one, come all.
Come see the great Lesus and his merry band of n’er do wells.
Woe to you who do not join with Lesus and his group of demented devoted followers. A foul fate shall fall upon your head if you turn your back on the great Les.
Even the swift and slight of foot ninjas see it as their duty to turn their back on their own kind , to form an alliance with this awe inspiring presence.
No aura can protect you from the destruction that follows from crossing the Church.
There is nowhere a ninja can lurk that will not be found by Lesus’ minions.
Yo-Ho-Ho, the Pirates will need two peg legs after crossing swords with such a force.
The time has come to surrender now to the Church of Lesus to avoid any possible dismemberment.
Lesus doesn’t tolerate those who oppose him, and his vengeance shall be painfully slow and torturous. You have been warned.
For so it is written in the good book of Lesus, Letters to the Monkey Ch. III; v. VI
“And all shall take up arms against the Church of Lesus And in the heat of battle the figure of Lesus shall come forth like a beacon, and he shall smite them down. There shall be dismemberment of those in opposing groups. Pirates will lose their one good leg, and their rum will be confiscated. Ninjas will fall from their hiding places and crack open their heads. Only one aura will be visible on that day, and it will completely surround Lesus and his bunch of demented devoted followers. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth, as those who oppose Lord Lesus are thrown into the abyss, never to return until they see the error of their ways, and pray to Lesus for mercy. Only when truly sorry for their previous indiscretions, and when Lesus in his great benevolence allows it, is there any hope of redemption”.
This is a prophecy of the outcome of this civil war. Change your ways now those of you that can, or suffer a fate worse than a night with Rx’s peacocks.

| Quote: | I must apologize Kily that you had to see such an offensive name on the PSN. This kind of thing is bad for all of us from Ireland that want the world to see us as intelligent people. It reflects poorly on all of us. The vast majority of Irish people are rational, decent people just getting on with the job of living each day. It's when louts like this appear that I feel ashamed of the things that have been done in the past, supposedly in the interests of our nation. But the Irish people never condoned any violence towards any other country, though it must have looked like it at the time.
Once the initial shame wears off though, I still remain very proud to be Irish and proud of the good relations that have existed between Britain and Ireland, despite the efforts of a few to destroy our bond. I for one love Britain and the British people. This sentement is reflected in most people in Ireland.
It's a shame that in 2011 this kind of backward thinking still exists. At a time when everyone is trying to promote peace and understanding between the most diverse groups, the past is allowed to haunt us. It is particularly disappointing that such behaviour occurs over the PSN. Other than sport, there aren't many things that bring people together more than online gaming. A person from our side of the world can play and talk to a person in Australia for example. This is a pretty powerful media in which to forge lasting friendships. It's such a shame then that brainless twits can't get out of the past.
The past belongs where it is. Sure we can learn from the past in an attempt never to repeat the mistakes made then. But to go around beating ones chest about attrocities committed is simply caveman tactics.
Once again I apologize for any offense caused, and simply reiterate that this attitude is in the minority.

| Fawlty__Towers wrote: | So what exactly is the purposes of clans? This is not for any one specific game right...just to be part of a cool group of people who share common interests in the games they play?
|
| Quote: | Hi Basil,
I just wanted to answer this question. The answer may lie in what exactly each member wants from a clan. There are plenty of clans around that are more interested in statistics such as killstreaks and kdr, than in how each individual within the clan feels. More power to them and good luck. However, to me a clan should be a group that have your back in every situation. I'm not just talking about in a gaming sense, but in everything. A clan should be somewhere you can go and discuss anything that is troubling you, knowing that you are going to be heard and good advice given to you. It should also be a place where you can go and have a laugh, joke with each other without anybody being offended.
A real clan looks beyond how good or bad a player is, and sees the person at the other end of the controller. In that way each person gets to feel that they belong to something very special indeed.
A couple of years ago I was completely new to online gaming, and in an attempt to improve I stumbled upon the Sixth Nation. A few pms later to Six and I was playing games with members of the gang. To cut a long story short I was accepted into the clan. It will tell you how awesome a group Ax!s is that I was allowed into the clan. I thought all my birthdays had come at once. To get into such a clan was something I wouldn't have dreamed possible. But as I came to know each member, I also came to appreciate what a clan should represent. It wasn't how good or bad I was at gaming that was important, it was that I enjoyed hanging out with a group of people that had similar ideals and views to myself.
Ax!s became so much a part of my life that my allies here didn't just become like my second family, they became an extension of my first.
The point I'm trying to make is that a clan in it's ideal form should be a family unit. Every member should look out for each other, and if real life weighs us down then we should have a place to go for a boost. That is what you get at Ax!s.
I don't know if you are looking to join a clan. I don't even know what type of clan you are looking for. But if you are looking for a clan that treats each member with respect, treats each member as individuals and not as a statistic, then that's what you get as a member of Ax!s. If your idea of a clan is somewhere you can belong to something unique that's far more important than gaming, then you couldn't do better than Ax!s.
Take it from me, The Sixth Nation is an awesome place, and Ax!s is the most awesome of clans.

| iRideAPalmer wrote: | | vets get very well paid everywhere. which annoys the hell outta me because the vet techs do all the dirty work and all the vets do is look at the result and prescribe meds. and do surgeries... so the techs get paid like $26,000 while vets get paid upwards of $75,000 a year. |
| Quote: | This has to be one of THE most stupid statements I have ever heard. You've stated in your own sentence the reason for the money they get. I've highlighted the point in question...... They do the surgeries. This alone justifies the money earned by a vet. This statement above is similar to saying that a nurse should earn as much as a heart surgeon, and we all know how stupid that would be.
All over the world there are millions of people whose beloved pets have been saved from near death by the skills and abilities of their vets. Try telling those people that the vet who saved their pet shouldn't earn the money he does. I don't think you'd find many that would begrudge the vet his earnings.
Two years ago my black Labrador was rolled over by a car. He actually went under the wheel, while at the same time being rolled around on his back. How he wasn't killed on the spot was a miracle. None of the local vets wanted to do anything with him, and it looked as though he was going to be euthanised. As a last resort we were referred to an animal hospital in Co. Cork in Southern Ireland. The main vet there is the best orthopaedic surgeon in Europe.
When I saw the x-rays I nearly got sick. The dog's spine was broken, his pelvis had been shattered, and his right hip had gone over to the same side as his left one. We were told his injuries were horrific, and the vet had never seen anything like it before. But he said he wanted to give the dog every chance of survival as he was a lovely, friendly dog. The normal procedure is to insert bars and clamps, using the good hip as a stabiliser. But in this case there was nothing to use as everything was smashed. After seven hours of surgery we were told that there were no guarantees. However he put my boy back together, God only knows. But two years later and the dog is living a full healthy life, and is doing really well. If it hadn't been for this vet, my dog would have been dead and buried two years ago. This was expensive surgery and I would have paid double to get the result I did.
The next year while the dog was recovering was one of the most stressful I have ever had. My nerves were nearly gone from fear that every move the dog made would damage his back again. But this vet had a lovely calming personality, and was able to put my mind at ease each time we met him. You see a really good vet is more than just a vet as he has to act as counsellor to the client as well. Before and after the surgery I never met a tech, but have dealt with the surgeon directly. We weren't charged for any subsequent consultancy fees, just the meds, and we were able to contact him 24/7 during the initial period of recovery. This kind of after care is priceless, and helped me pulled through the whole ordeal. There is nobody who will tell me this vet didn't deserve every penny we paid him. Don't forget that the fee also included radiology, anaesthetist fees, meds etc, so the fee was very reasonable.
Four months ago my yellow Lab ruptured his cruciate ligament. The same vet performed this surgery, and this was also a complete success. This Lab is now back to normal activity and has made a full recovery. That is two dogs that have had major surgery in the past two years. Am I going to go around and then say that vets don't deserve every penny they get. I have utmost respect for the veterinary profession, and because of my experiences will not hear a bad word said against them. Would a tech have been able to perform those surgeries? That then is the reason for the difference in pay grade.
I have to admit to getting upset today when I read your post belittling the work that vets do, as it brought the whole thing back to me. It's something I would never wish to live through again. It is important to never belittle anyone or group, as we don't know who will be affected by our comments. | |
