He was killed by U.S. and Pakistani forces about a week ago, and the U.S. is in custody of his body. I'll add more when there's more to know.

Actually, it was today. Ive been watching the special reports. It was last week they confirmed his exact where abouts.

While Im happy the threat is removed, Im a little disgusted in what Im seeing on t.v
The way it's talked about and even celebrated confuses me.
I truly ask this with out understanding......how can loss of life be celebrated?

He was bad. Evil mastermind.
I get that.
But....idk.

This is probably a topic I should avoid.

i just don't really think its a victory, how many millions of dollars, how many lives where lost and 10 years...10 long years filled with sorrow and fear. we killed him yes but at what cost? is it really a victory? and you can bet there's going to be retaliation for this towards us, its not like they are just going to disband after there leader is dead

Why not? That's how it worked in Star Wars. Kill the emperor and destroy the death star = no more republic. The hundreds of thousands of interstellar battleships and countless troops didn't matter. Meet those two conditions and you get victory. Heck, the Taliban doesn't even have a death star. War Over. Rolling Eyes

So, someone who deserved it got what was coming to them, and probably far less than he deserved.
Great.
And as further proof that the terrorists didn't win, I'm going to stop paying attention to this completely. They haven't scared me. They don't interest me. Their actions have accomplished nothing.
Have ours? I don't know. That's for future historians to decide. I'm just going to get on with my life.

I think its more symbolic than anything. Direct repercussions? Nothing large. Maybe a few terrorist responses. Huge benefits? Not much. There still are many who harbor ill will against the "west" and its "allies".

So, the symbolism is definitely significant. Aside from that, I don't see huge change. But who knows....I could be wrong. Time will tell for sure.

You know i learnt something very very true about the wars in the middle east this month...

They're never ever going to end. Theres a great example in the book '1984' by George Orwell.
Basically the economy and the resources of all our countries are put into mass production to fuel our need for defense. Essentially, never ending war is the exact same concept as never ending peace, only mass production would actually be used to fuel human existence/progress. Though unfortunately theres too much money in war to stop it.

So as far as I'm concerned Osama's death is just another way for the American government to appear like they're making progress. When in reality everythings the same as before.
I mean were u cowering under your bed when osama was in hiding.. no. Most of the world forgot about him and i dont think changed now that hes gone.

Btw I was in no way attempting to convey negativity towards America in anyway in this post. I was merely outlining the irrelevance of his death.

It is great news that his reign of terror is at an end, but I just fear that an even worse entity may arise to take his place. Hopefully he was such a brilliant mastermind that nobody exist to replace him. I heard someone on the news this morning saying that the world will be in even greater danger for a while once his followers regroup. But the threat of danger has been very real and very prevalent for a while now. Can the world ever be considered truly safe again while one individual can threaten such devastation and cruelty as was seen on 9/11? In that sense I'm glad to see the back of him. However, I would much prefer to have seen him captured alive. He is a martyr now. His followers are fanatics, and his deeds will be viewed as heroic, even though ironically, he was the ultimate coward. He was willing to inflict cruel and agonising deaths on thousands of innocents, as well as leave families shattered in the wake of this outrageous inhuman act. He was able to call on an army of brainwashed fanatics to do his dirty work, on the promise that their place in the afterlife would be heightened. At the same time he was able to go on the run and seek refuge, escaping detection for years.

Death is easy for these .....people? It's difficult to give his deeds a human element. They are more willing to commit suicide by a capsule, than be taken alive. I just think that for the level of terror and misery he dished out liberally, death was an easy end for him.
