Was intending to finish this tonight but chapter 10 took over 2 hours to complete due to a few difficult fights which had me raging and very nearly giving up totally . Once that was over I began to enjoy the game a lot more and I finished up the night about 20 mins into chapter 12 . Will hopefully finish this off tomorrow . Definitely gonna make sure that I start on normal instead of hard difficulty in dead space 2 .

My Dead Space copy is either damaged or something is wrong with my PS3...could not for the life of me get the game to boot.

Maybe it has something to do with my game data from before...I'll try to delete it and try again tomorrow.

What difficulty would you guys recommend for my first playthrough?

I recommend medium. I tryed on hard first up and found myself in an impossible situation..

I agree with Wolf , start on normal , hard is quite tough first up , I regret going for it first.
