| You started it.
Looking at some of these though, I have to ask. Is this the best the year really had? Seems a bit weak. __________________________ |

| I see only MW2 as a contender, IMO |

| Game of the Year category is strong though. I mean:
Assassin's Creed 2 = teh awesome,
Batman Arkham Asylum = teh awesome,
Uncharted 2 = teh awesomest.
I haven't played the others so I'm not in a position to comment. But three high quality games (four if you include MW2), can't be bad. |

I agree, but seeing the trend you can also find in most movie awards it all has me worried. It almost seems like the big names are the ONLY games released all year when you look at the cats., when we know that's not the case. I guess what I am asking is....even though its some fledgling cable tv stations award ceremony have they too become a promotion machine for the games that the industry wants us to like and buy? Kind of the same as: radio plays what they want you to hear...even though there is much better music out there?
To see the biggest games landed in almost every category seems to argue the case that maybe...its all just spoon fed B.S.
I don't really have a list that I would find more suitable....but still......__________________________ |

| You're right Six. I've been noticing the same trend in movies for a good few years now. Big budget movies keep winning the highest honours, while there are far better movies with less funds that don't even get nominated. I haven't gone to the movies for a few years now, and I don't really follow the Oscars either. Movies that are story driven or are reliant on quality actors seem to get pushed aside to be replaced by what studio has spent the most in $billions. James Cameron is one of the biggest culprits of this. Sorry in advance now to anyone who enjoyed 1997's "The Titanic". If you liked that movie then I'm sorry for your troubles. That movie was absolute rubbish imo. But that was the big spending phenomenon that year. Far better movies haven't won anything simply because they hadn't the colossal funds to compete. There was no story to it. I mean Billy Zane running around trying to shoot Leonardo DiCaprio, and he going to be dead in about two minutes anyway. Get real. But the fact that it remains one of the all time highest earners strengthens your point abut spoonfed BS. The acting was horrific. Plus the fact that in a three hour movie, the actual sinking took only about half an hour. They didn't follow the actual tragic events at all. It was just a huge spending love story, that paid no attention to historical facts. That spells sell-out if ever anything could. My sister asked me to go to it, so against my better judgement I went. I was bored to tears. I was like "sink the thing already". But just because it had all the money to spend people bought into it. It would be a pity if the gaming industry follows the same path. |
